InnerSpeaker by Tame Impala

Tame Impala--they might look like they are in 7th grade but their music is anything but immature.

Okay..so first let me tell you that when you say this bands name, don’t think of the car.  I have found out that “impala” is meant to refer to the medium-sized antelope.  Just thought I’d give you the heads up…

Tame Impala is comprised of Kevin Parker on lead guitar and vocals, Dominic Simper on bass guitar, and Jay Watson on drums and backing vocals.  According to Parker, the lead singer, the band see themselves as  “a steady flowing psychedelic groove rock band that emphasizes dream-like melody.

I think psychedelic rock is a fitting genre for this band from Perth, Western Australia.  There is definitely that groovy, hippy feel to the music…I mean, you definitely feel like you are in the 1960’s—in a GOOD way.  Although Tame Impala has been around for over a decade, they didn’t get recognition in the United States until recently, when they signed to Modular Records.  Turns out that MySpace helped out yet another band again.  There was a multiple label competition to sign Tame Impala.  It was Modular Records who won through sending them a MySpace message.  Modular was the first record label to show interest and the band chose to stick with them.    Personally, I think they made an outstanding decision.

Tame Impala lookin' groovy.

Tame Impala went to #1 on Australian Independent Record Label Charts with multiple tracks and I am sure that they will do the same on CMJ here in the United States.  If you wanna find them, they are currently touring with MGMT.

Here are a few music videos to getcha going.
