Go by Jónsi

So a good few weeks back I told ya’ll about Jónsi putting out his first solo album.  Jón Thor Birgisson, better known as Jonsi, and even more know as— the lead singer of Sigur Rós is pretty fabulous.  His voice just soothes.  I have never had the chance to see Sigur Ros live and I was hoping that I would get the chance to see Jónsi but thus far, there are no tour dates coming close to LA.  Only time will tell.

Happily, I came across a video of him performing live and the voice you see live definitely matches that which is on the CD… 100%.  Now-a-days, it seems that what you hear on an album does not alway seem to match the product that you see live.  For example, The Tings Tings pretty much sucked live.  But do not worry my friends, this is not the case with Jónsi.

I truly feel like this music appeals to all listeners…but maybe I am just putting my personal tastes upon you.  There are tracks for every type of person here.  The record label seems to think that this is “acoustic” but when I hear that type of information, I think of something totally different.

As Jónsi explains, “I started out trying to make a low-key acoustic album, but somewhere along the line it just sort of exploded.”  And it does.  It is also nice to hear words in English.  You can take a little more from each song because you know the intentions of the song through the lyrics.

The first single, “Go Do” has these lyrics.

Go sing, too loud
Make your voice break – Sing it out
Go scream, do shout
Make an earthquake…

You wish fire, would die and turn colder
You wish, your love, could see you grow older
We should always know that we can do anything

Go drum, do go out
Make your hands ache – Play it out
Go march through crowds
Make your day break…

You wish silence, released noise in tremors
You wish, I know it, surrender to summers
We should always know that we can do everything

Go do, you’ll know how to
Just let yourself, fall into landslide

Go do, you’ll know how to
Just let yourself, give into low tide

Go do!

Tie strings to clouds
Make your own lake – Let it flow
Throw seeds to sprout
Make your own break – Let them grow

Let them grow (Endless summers)
Let them grow (Endless summers)

(Go do endless summers)

You will survive, will never stop wonders
You and sunrise will never fall under

You will survive, will never stop wonders
You and sunrise will never fall under
We should always know that we can do anything

Go do!

Beautiful right?

Here are a couple videos I found.  One is an interview and the other is him performing ‘Go Do’ live.  Enjoy.
