Did I tell you about the bus on campus here at Cal State-Long Beach? I wish I could get an up-close photo of him but I think that might have been rude. Well, the bus driver is currently wearing a medical mask. I’m guessing it is due to the one lonely confirmed case on campus. I think he must have missed the update that medical masks won’t protect you from the virus. I can see him thinking about all the random teenagers that enter his bus daily. Wondering who washed their hands, who has a fever, who has taken a party vacation to Mexico for the weekend…the list goes on and on! Oh well, I think the mask makes him feel like he is being proactive about the whole situation.
Who is next you ask? Apparently Glastonbury. Yes, you heard me right. The big ass (roughly 135,000 people go) festival is warning that if the swine flue becomes worse than the festival will be canceled. Currently the staff is having emergency meeting to figure out what to do and how to the handle the situation. Basically, if there is a pandemic, the show is off.
The festival is scheduled to take place June 24-29th with bands/musicians such as: Glasvegas, Lily Allen, Bat for Lashes, Bloc Party, Bon Iver, Blur, Fleet Foxes, Franz Ferdinand, Jason Mraz, Bruce Springsteen, Neil Young, M. Ward..and oh-so-many more!
Organizers explained to The Sun:
“So many people gathered in one place is a risk and if the government wanted to pull public events, like in Mexico, we’d be one of the first to go,” the spokesman told the Sun. “It would be crazy not to put a plan in place. Right now, though, it’s full steam ahead. We are monitoring all developments. At this stage the festival is going ahead and we are continuing to work flat out to make it a success.”
I doubt that the show would be cancelled…and if it gets to that point, I don’t think I’d feel safe being there anyway.
