I guess saying that Sigur Rós is coming out with a CD would be more fiction than truth. Really, Sigur Rós’ singer, Jón Þór Birgisson and his partner/artistic partner), Alex Sumers are going to release a new album called Riceboy Sleeps. From what I have heard and read, the two have been doing exhibitions that include live art with ambient music under Riceboy Sleeps and decided to give their debut album the same title.
To get an idea of what to expect from the album you can listen to the track on the compilation CD Dark Was the Night. Now everything is starting to make sense to me because I was listening to the CD a month or so ago and I was listening to “Happiness” which is track they are on and I was astounded with how gorgeous it was…and even more astounded that I didn’t yet know of Riceboy Sleeps. Ahhhhh—everything is starting to make more sense.
The CD is to be released July 20th through Parlophone Records and is a MUST buy in my opinion. It was recorded in the duo’s homeland of Iceland with only acoustic instruments—no vocals. It is said to be a 9-track LP that was “endlessly toyed with on solar-powered laptops in a raw food commune in some far corner of Hawaii.”
