Justin Vernon lookin' cute.
I know Bon Iver has been around for a while but I haven’t really gotten into it until recently; I know, what the heck is wrong with me?!? Anyway, I recently received the EP Blood Bank and was pretty astounded with it. So soothing and tranquil–genuine is a word that comes to mind. “Woods” is a to-DIE-for track. So now my ears perk up whenever I hear the b-o-n i-v-e-r and let me telllllll you–they have been perking up A LOT! I truly feel that on the compilation CD Dark Was the Night, Bon Iver’s track was definitely one of the top–and it was for a good cause–to spread the word about AIDS/HIV. I also read the Vernon designed a shirt to benefit a womens shelter.
Th guy is a genuine angel. Not only is he a great musician he loves to…love and help in any way possible.
And now I read on Pitchfork that Vernon is going to return to his alma mater in Wisconsin to perform with the jazz band. So here is what is going down. Justin Vernon is to perform at Memorial High School as a singer being backed up by Jazz Ensemble 1 (which I am assuming is the most advanced class). The theme of the night is Duke Ellington so Vernon will be covering jazz standards. There will also be original Bon Iver songs that the ensemble will back him up on!
Turns out that Vernon graduated from the school in 1999 and was part of the ensemble during his time as a guitar player. He will prepare the music himself for the current students. The performance hall/auditorium can fit a bit less than 1500 and money earned will go to help the ensemble go to competition.
Nice.
Check with VolumeOne for updates on the jazz show and of course pics of the event after it happens!
