Well, that is what The Tripwire said when talking about Blender Magazine being shut down. The popular music magazine, which started in 2001 was unable to fight it’s end due to large sale decline/subscription declines and a huge drop in ad sales–31% decline in 2008 and over 50% since the beginning of 2009. Therefore, the April issue, which is currently on stands, will be the last.
Alpha Media told the news to the Blender staff this morning which in turn leaves 30 people jobless. CEO of Alpha Media, Stephen Duggan said that:
“Since 2001, Blender has provided unmatched music coverage and entertainment news in its unique voice to a profoundly dedicated audience of music enthusiasts,” Mr. Duggan wrote. “We are particularly grateful to the sales team and to the tremendously talented editorial staff for their hard work and commitment to Blender.”
Oh music industry, you really are starting to worry. Lesson: if you want something to stay in business you really do need to show them some love through some good hard cash. Sad but true. Or else, there is a good chance that they might go out of business…
